Assertive Behavior
ASSERTIVE BEHAVIOR:
An assertive person stands between the passive and the aggressive; they are not self-limited by the mental frameworks that characterize the passive and the aggressive. The assertive individual doesn't attribute reality to aggressive and passive behaviors: they know that both are only the result of limitations. The assertive person understands that limitations can be overcome, and discomfort can be conquered.
Assertive Behaviors:
1. Respecting others, their rights, and their opinions.
2. Not allowing others to be aggressive towards us (not tolerating them).
3. Willingness to modify one's own opinions.
4. Not demanding that others behave as we would like them to.
5. Not being possessive towards the people around us.
6. Not feeling entitled to judge others.
7. Ability to operate from the level of others.
The assertive individual is capable of interacting with both passive and aggressive individuals, as well as, naturally, with other assertive individuals. By not accepting the challenge of the aggressive and not inferring upon the passive, the assertive person can effectively manage human relationships.
Let this behavior be our life model!
